Alternative High School Education
Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE)
LACOE's Division of Alternative Education provides educational services to youth between the ages of 13-18. East Los Angeles Alternative Education Center (AEC) is one of seven geographically divided AEC's thoughout the entire County of Los Angeles. Youth Fair Chance (YFC) Community Day School is one of the programs directly supervised by the East LA AEC.
YFC Community Day School provides an extended day option for students who have been referred by districts due to expulsion, referred by the Probation Department and assigned because of poor attendance or other at-risk behaviors. The Community Day School model provides a three hundred sixty (360) instructional minute day that allows for seven classes and enables students to earn an additional five (5) credits per semester toward graduation. The enhanced instruction provides access to technology training, enriched learning activities, a self-esteem/personal growth component, and career options through a collaborative with other CCNP partner agencies.
